2025
Greetings from The Health Exchange. We are celebrating our achievement of 25 years' service to our community. It has been a long, long road and across that time 40 health professionals have come through our doors and out again! My first Massage Therapist Anna Defazio has been massaging for a good 20 years although now in motherhood the only one to benefit from her skills may be her little one. Our first Osteopath Dr Melissa Ward would have celebrated her 20 years and as far as I know she is still practicing from the Craigieburn Junction rooms. Evelyn Lomas joined us as our first Herbalist back in 2003 or 4, I should ask her as I regularly see her for a massage and is definitely still in practice as a Naturopath/Herbalist/Massage Therapist from Inspire Physio rooms in Bridgewater Road. Coincidentally this is the clinic Dr Melissa and Dr Rob began when they flew my nest in 2011. I think Dr Rob has a team upstairs at Dental One on Craigieburn Road. Oh, Craigieburn Podiatry - do you remember their history? I was looking for a Podiatrist to join my clinic back in 2004 or 2005. I was told by the Podiatrists at the Community Health Centre that Craigieburn was not big enough to support private Podiatry services. Then under the radar Julie Goodwin starts a clinic in Hamilton Street up a flight of stairs in 2006! Top of stairs is not a great location with the main users of Podiatry services, I might add. I found out about her services because her husband was on my massage table one day telling me about it! So, for a couple of years, I tried to wow Julie into moving her clinic into my premises. She finally did in October 2009 while selling her practice to Jana before moving north back to QLD. Not what I was planning but we got Podiatry here. Jana worked the business from her corporate job at Northern Health until it was too much and she on-sold it to Brogan Trevaskis in about 2013/14. She is now known as Brogan Pearsall, took the reins to grow the business and has run Undefeated Podiatry since 2018 from the service lane on Craigieburn Road, almost directly south of here two blocks!
Back in 2015 I took on the medical rooms at the Hume Tennis and Community Centre up on Marathon Boulevard. Whilst it was on the outskirts of civilization at that time, I could see the growth that was coming over the bridge. Pleased to say I was right if you look there now - not a kangaroo to be seen! From those three rooms we had a variety of health providers who are still in practice. Rachelle Bezzina had a dream to start her own clinic, Green Life Massage Therapy, and two years after graduating still had not been able to get started. When she heard about my offer to support her from a practice manager position, she was ecstatic, and she has now been in business 10 years. She is now working from clinic rooms on Craigieburn Road next door to the (newer) Chiropractor clinic. That clinic belongs to Dr Robbie who has a good number of Chiropractic clinics across Melbourne, at least 10 I'd surmise. He brought his services to the Marathon Boulevard Clinic Rooms to test the market and expand out here. His team were with me for a couple of years and when they moved to their new premises, Rachelle joined them. Heather Lamb ran her Emmett and Reiki Therapy from the rooms for over a year before hubby's retirement moved them to warmer weather in QLD too. When COVID hit I let the rooms go and Massage By Loretta took over her own room and I believe continues out there and Dr Yang our Chinese Medicine/Acupuncturist stayed for a while before moving to her home clinic somewhere in Craigieburn I believe. Dr Moyez Razi was at the original clinic in Dianne Avenue from 2006 until the knock of COVID closed us down and he is happily practicing Acupuncture and Laser Acupuncture from his home clinic in Greenvale.
My apologies to those I missed a mention who are still practicing in Craigieburn or nearby. After COVID I decided I had achieved my dream of a multi-disciplinary Medical Centre and it was time to change tracks. While I am still here on Tuesdays and Saturdays, I do home visits for people on Aged Care Packages on Mondays and Wednesdays. The other three days of the week are for my new adventures in filmmaking. I plan to continue massaging at this stage with my next review date in 2030. You can guess how many years I will have been turning concrete into jelly by then. Not a young little chickee will I be by then!

I look forward to seeing the back of your head on my massage table some time. Cheers!

This is the latest (long time ago now) film I have made in an attempt to give you an overview of The Health Exchange and the Women's Health Retreat Centre. I have only 71 films under my belt and to a film-technical eye you will see where I need to expand my capacities. Having said that, please enjoy as an introduction to Sophia and her business!
