What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine that uses a variety of 'hands on' techniques to muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons of the body in  order to restore function and maintain health.  Osteopaths are primary health care practitioners that take a whole body approach to treatment.  Treatment not only focuses on your complaint, but on related areas of the body which may be adding to your problem.  This helps us to accurately understand why your problem is occuring.  Osteopaths are registered health professionals that have undertaken at least 5 years of university studies.  Osteopathic training not only involves comprehensive studying of anatomy and physiology but also biomechanics, pathology and clinical diagnosis.

Osteopaths are also equipped to provide rehabilitation post surgery, after sporting injuries and post pregnancy. We can work with you to develop a rehabilitative strengthening program to get you back to health as soon as possible.

The Consultation
As health care practitioners, your health as a whole is important to us.  That's why we approach your complaint as a whole body problem.  By this, we mean that we look at other related areas which are influencing or contributing to your pain in order to get an adequate representation of your whole problem.  This not only allows us to determine the factors resulting in your pain but ways in which you can prevent this from re-occuring.

Osteopaths take a thorough medical history and assessment in order to determine the true origin of your pain.  In a small number of cases, muscular pain is not truly muscular in cause and our history and assessment allows this to be determined.

Osteopathic treatment is entirely 'hands on' and tailored to your specific needs.  We are equipped with a variety of techniques such as articulation, stretching, manipulation and soft tissue modalities in order to fully address your problem.  Postural factors are another important factor addressed during osteopathic treatment.  Ananlysis of why you are experiencing pain and what you can do at home or work to help your problem is discussed with you in order for you to benefit from treatment even when you are not seeing us. Where stretching or strengthening is required in order to reduce the likelihood of re-injury, practical advice on how to do this is offered. We aim to get you pain free and keep you there!

Osteopaths are trained in treating all of the muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons within the body.  If you are unsure whether Osteopathy can help, please call us at the clinic.  No referral is necessary to see an Osteopath and private health fund rebates are available from most health funds.
